Milk Price war

I was in sainsburys last night and noticed they had 4 pints of milk for £1.
I was told that somerfield where selling 4 pints for 99p. And just looked on the Tescos Price checker and they too are selling the white delight at £1 for 4 pints as well as Asda.
So time to stock up. Of course anyone in the know would have noticed that iceland have had this offer on for months now.

I could have swore that price checker said it was £1.12.
Shame it is not good for the farmers. Just means they get even less per litre now. And most likely less than it cost to produce.

I knew that. Trouble with Iceland is that the 4 pintas have short expiry dates whereas Tesco's have long use by dates.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I quite agree Calley - please bear a thought for the farmers - dont forget that when you see buy one get one free on Fruit & Veg its not your supermarket being generous, its the farmer having to take half price for his goods.
Please shop with a conscience - local fruit and veg shops are usually cheaper than the supermarkets and are far more "farmer friendly".
And no, I am not a farmer !!!0 -

I agree not wanting to take this thread away from the original point. But people buy fair trade produce but never think to extend that to the farmers in this country. Strange that, everyone should be paid a fair amount for produce no matter what country. I saw today that dairy farmers earns about £2 something an hour. For the amount of hours they work. Most people would not get out bed for that.
I am not a farmer but but a farmers daughter and granddaughter.

I don't buy milk from the supermarket - I get it delivered to the door in good old fashioned glass pint bottles. It's 49p a pint delivered, but it's worth every penny - the supermarkets are taking over the country and the world even!
I really love making savings, but I do think of the consequences where produce such as milk is in question.
I also won't buy meat at the supermarket - only buy at the butcher (I know it is dearer) where it is quality better flavour, and know where it has come from! After seeing the programme on channel 4 about how and where supermarkets get their meat and how the animals are treated I will never go back to buy their meat - especially chickens!!
I do understand this is taking away from the point of the post, but I do beleive we have to think of the future of our farmers! I must point out that I am not related to any farmer - just a country girl!0 -
They've knocked the price of the organic milk up to compensate though, since this promotion organic milk has shot up by 25p for 2 litres.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I've never found skimming in 6 pint cartons. I wish the cartons were collected by the council for recycling though.
