i have never done this sort of city breaks but my mrs is nagging me for one in paris. i can do it in the last week of may and i can travel midweek to minimise costs (i can go on wednesday and come back on monday). does any one know how much should i expect to pay for such a break for 2 adults and 2 years old infant. any recommendations will be highly appreciated. by the way i can fly from birmingham (the airport is only one mile from my house) or coventry.... i would prefer to stay in paris city centre if possible..thanks

Can you fly from East Mids airport?"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

i guess i can but that will mean extra costs for car parking and the journey which is a shame considering that i live next door to birmingham airport and all i am getting from it is the noise0

Forget Paris go to Prague, Much more romantic!(And cheaper too!)Growing old is manditory, Growing up is optional! :j0

I would have to agree there.I absolutely hate Paris and there are so many much better city break destinations out there to see.The_Bargain_Hunters wrote:Forget Paris go to Prague, Much more romantic!(And cheaper too!)"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

If Paris is definetly where you want to go i would think it will be still be cheaper to go from the East Mids airport and pay airport parking than going from Birmingham."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
Alternatively, consider Eurostar from London to Paris with The Times offer. From £79 per adult, rail + 2 nights B+B at 3* Quality Inn. See this week's times for details.0

Paris is a centralized city. I've stayed there for a long weekend at Denfert-Rocherau metro station. Forget about travelling by car, because the traffic is high (and sometimes strange). If you by a collected ticket (10 ticket for 8-9 Euro as I remember) you are able to reach everything in 30 mins.
I love Paris and I love Prague (Budapest, Munich, Rome..etc) also. Everything depends on what kind of situations do you get in.
The taxi-fare is tolerable also in Paris.0 -
Hi
We just flew from East Midlands to Prague and we live in Solihull its a really easy journey on the motorway I was surprised! It only took 30mins longer than the journey to Birmingham Airport. Parking for 3 days cost 25.00 with BCP and it was a five min walk to the airport itself, no need for buses. I would fly from East Midlands again no problem. We are going to Paris in April on the Eurostar using the telegraph special offer. I think the times are doing it now mentioned in another post. Its cheaper to travel on Chilton railways to london rather than virgin if you do decide to use eurostar.
I hope this helps. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0 -
Did this in January using the link mentioned here:

After much shopping around this was the cheapest I found for the standard I wanted.
We stayed at the villa pantheon next to the sorbonne (clean, nice location and facilities but rooms were tiny, this may be standard for Paris). I would recommend the three day travel card which we bought within the airport then got straight on the train from within the airport building into the city. If we were going back we thought the area around the Eiffel tower/les invalides looked nice to stay in.
Only negative thing was that the Parisians seem to love their dogs but not pick up after them.0 -
Hi Sam,
Just back from a long weekend (Thursday to Sunday) when we flew from Coventry Airport to Orly which is the second biggest airport to Paris. It cost £130 return for two of us and £30 to park the car for 4 days. Paris is a direct train trip from Orly Airport so easy to get to or you could do what we did and stay in nearby Versailles which is beautiful and cheaper but only a half hour train journey up to Paris. So you can enjoy cheaper accommodation and excellent food and see Paris without the major prices.
Our flight from Coventry to Orly was spot on - my only niggle was that it left at 6.45am so we had to be at the airport for 4.45am but I have to say it was well worth it. We stay on the Solihull/Warks border so Birmingham Airport is usually our first preference. Check out https://www.thomsonfly.com0
