Hi

I am going to my friends today and would like to take my laptop with me to show her some items on the net. How would I connect to the internet using her husbands wireless router?

Thanks

If you know the encryption key, it's just a case of selecting their SSID and then typing in the password.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

Hi, your laptop will "see" the router and ask a couple of questions. Look to the task bar and find the signal strength meter (near the clock). Select the top/strongest one and "connect" You need the pass phrase.
  • Hi

you will get router ID on bottom of router, if she prefers to keep password secret, though as you are a friend, I don't see why.

Thanks everybody. Which password are you talking about, the one my friends husbands, when he set the connection up?

I don't know what SSID means, sorry.

Much easier to just plug into the router using the ethernet cable, then no passwords to worry about.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

How would it do that? You just plug it in, you're not installing anything.

Unless they happen to be operating an 802.1x encrypted network, then no. And they're not, if the extent of the network is a router.
