Gameboy advice

My daughter, soon to be 10, has asked for a gameboy for her birthday.

Any advice on what extras are essential and which games are value for money, which are not etc would be really appreciated.

I haven't found any good bundles yet but still looking.

Thanks

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
toys r us seem to offer pretty good packages so i would try them

when we got one for my little un we got a cartridge which had 109 games on.. ok some werent that brilliant but a lot of them were

it was around £20 and he stil plays with it even tho some of the more 'popular' ones have been shelved

    HTH
When you know better you do better
  • Its probably a GBA ( Game Boy Advance ) that she wants, I got my girl one for Xmas was about £ 70.00 a pink one.

Best thing for games is to look around, games will be from £ 7.00 up to about £ 27.00,

If the games are new releases then expect to pay well into the £ 20's

Try Toys R US, woolwoths,Game, all can be found on line,

All above will have bundles too which is your best bet when buying new.

Tescos also have cheap games, you can get cartridges with 2 games on like Crash and Spiro which a 10 year old would like.

Depending on what she likes you will be able to get a game ( thats marketing ) Dogs is a nice game !, Bratz, Scooby Doo,

Go for the Nintendo DS. It plays Game boy advance games as well as the dual screen ones. I beleive that Nintendo are expanding its use to play movies and educational stuff.
They are selling bundles with Mario Kart in tesco which is a great game. You dont really need any accessories with it as the screens are really good.

My kids have progressed through all the gameboys over the years.

The youngest three 16, 10 & 9 all now have the DS, All their friends seem to have them too. I can recommend them.
They all have mario kart/nintendogs etc & play wireless between each other & friends.
They also play mario kart via the free BT/The Cloud wifi spots in Mcdonalds & various other places to people all over the world. Amazing stuff.
I have now set them up a a belkin 54g wireless router (£30 recently) at home so they can play worldwide.
As was said earlier more more enhancements to system soon.

Play do some good bundles with mariokart

    Go for it

Info for those with belkin routers

The nintendo Wifi site says the f57230 etc is not compatible.
All you need to do is set SSID to broadcast.
Put your SSID manually in DS wifi settings.
Once you have a connection put the DS MAC address in your MAC address filtering fields with your PC etc address too. Then enable MAC address filtering.
This will stop anybody jumping on the connection.
ps turning off broadcast SSID looses the ds connection.
  • Once you've found what you're looking for, make sure you post it here (I've subscribed to the thread, and I'm a pro @ getting stuff cheap :D).
  • same here... :) wanna have good stuff but cheap in price...

Can only see carry cases on Tesco.com - not much use yet!!
I obviously need to do some more research.

    Thanks

We bought our daughter a DS for her birthday (in 2 weeks ) We haven't gone for any extra's, just the console. I got a pokemon game (she loves pokemon!) for it too from ebay. Other than that we will add to it as and when she decides she wants any extras.

She also has a game boy advanced. The only extra we bought for that were the link cable so she can swop pokemon with her brother and an adaptor so she can use headphones.

Other games she does play (she's coming up to 9) are spyro, pacman and a gba game called sheep. You have to round the sheep up with your sheepdog and get them into the waiting van. Good fun but frustrating!

We going off the game boy idea at the moment. When we discussed it with our daughter, she hadn't a clue what games she fancied so we're not sure how seriously she wants one - may wait until Xmas when there are more deals about. We don't mind spending the money if she really wants one but they are a lot of money for a whim.

We already have an XBOX so are looking into add-ons for that. She really likes a friend's eye toy thingy but there doesn't seem to be one for the XBOX yet. We are considering a dance mat so if anyone has any experience on these for XBOX or any other suggestions then your comments will be most appreciated.

    Thanks
