Movie cannot be played on this ipod - help!

Hi all, I have been trying to get a movie onto my ipod touch all day, it's now nearly midnight and I still haven't succeeded!
After searching for advice on here, I converted a shop-bought dvd using DVD Decrypter. Then I used Handbrake to convert to ipod touch format.
Then I added the file to itunes. The movie plays perfectly in itunes, but when I try to sync with my ipod touch, I get the following message;
'The movie has not copied to your ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod'.
I am now in the process of converting it again using the 'advanced - create ipod version' option on the toolbar, but I have a couple of questions:
Did I do anything wrong in the first place?
How long will itunes take to convert an average-length movie?
Is it normal to take almost a whole day converting one dvd - if so, I understand why people just buy them again from itunes!
All help very gratefully received!!
ps I have successfully converted youtube videos for the ipod touch in the past, and have downloaded videos from itunes which sync ok, but this is the first time I have attempted a dvd.

Strange that it didn't work; I've never had any problems converting a video using the iPod Touch preset in HandBrake. If you converted it using h.264, you might want to try converting it as a regular mp4, and vice versa.

Working with video can take a while, and the length of time is largely dependent on your processor speed.

iTunes is a lot slower than HandBrake at converting things IIRC, so you could be in for a bit of a wait!

OMG - :eek: I think Handbrake took about 5 hours so if itunes is even slower, think I'd better go to bed! Actually, have just looked at the conversion, and I think there is a progress bar which so far has about half a millimetre showing! I have some kind of dual core processor, not sure of the speed. Think I'll leave the laptop on and check if it's done in the morning, hope that's safe.
