Paypal Negative Balance?

I wanted to make a purchase today but was hit with a negative balance? im on a debit card and i deposited 25 today knowing that i was in bad standing but i assumed im in good standing now.
i logged into paypal but was told i was negative but 20 (-20 in red type) i paid 15 because it says im liable for charges,it has taken off 15 so it leaves me with 5 but i still dont know how to pay the other 5 pounds?

What's your actual balance? If you're negative you just need to deposit more money to make up it up to £0.

That's a bit daft. I've never had a negative balance so I was just suggesting the common sense approach. It sounds like you might need to ring them to get it sorted? It's fairly painless to ring them, but you will need to set aside 20 minutes to do so - 18 minutes of which will be spent on hold ;)

First question, why have you got a negative balance?

i am having the same 'negative balance' problem with paypal. I sold an item and the buyer decided to return it by which time i had withdrawn the money from paypal. Paypal refunded the buyer leaving me with a negative balance.
A day later i topped up my paypal top up visa card with £81 to pay a bill. I tried to pay my bill and card refused. I checked online to find my card was blocked!!!
Phoned paypal to be told that once paypal acc is in neg balance, everything gets blocked incl top up card!!! (oh but it still lets u add money on the card even though its blocked)

I tell them i need the money on my card - theres nothing they can do until i restore my balance (30quid)
I tell them to take 30 off my card! They say sorry we cant!
They say as soon as i restore my balance my card will unblock, they then tell me the only way to do this is send a cheque to paypal headquarters (takes 7-9 days to clear plus time to get there), or ask a relative to transfer money from their paypal acc to mine!! Iv got no1 that can do this!!

So they are holding my 81quid on my card and not allowing any options other than cheque payment or someone elses paypal account to restore my balance! My top up card and debit card are both linked to my account but im not allowed to use either to add money!!!!

How ridiculous!!! So i am now at a standstill. Iv got no1 with paypal to transfer money and i dont have a chequebook!!
I have 81quid on THEIR card which im givin permission for them to use to restore my balance but they REFUSE!!!!!!!!

    Any ideas????????????

Do you have any other items to sell on ebay? if so stick them on buy it now with immeadiate payment required and hope one sells, if you sell more than £30s worth then you'll clear the negative balance.

Thanks for the reply but i had already thought of that one.........the thing is now, my ebay account is linked to that paypal account and they have restricted that too due to the neg balance on paypal

When i called they said as paypal and ebay are owned by same grp of companies, if paypal acc becomes negative, they block everything connected to it
  • I have the same problem, a buyer purchased an item for £43.99, net total after fees £42.29. On 18 Nov 2009, I had a dodgy chargeback for an item at a cost of £43.99. Had over £150 in my account, they held £42.36 (7p more than my net profit from the sale) and withdrew what I had left to my paypal topup card. Paypal ended up in favor for the buyer so i lost the item and the money.

I tried to withdraw my money from my PRE PAID card but it didn't work and was declined. Went and checked Paypal and they had restricted my account. Not knowing what the problem was, i phoned them and they told me i owed £1.64 as they was unable to re-coup all the buyers money. I told them they had infact taken 7p more than I owed and they needed to refund the sellers fee as i had not made any money. The Irish lady then told me i have to pay the paypal fees because they had to investigate.?? I started to get upset and she hung up on me. I ended up spending £20 calling paypal and RBoS in one day.

In the end i was told that i needed to add funds to my account to pay the Paypal fees, they can then unlimited my Paypal account and unblock my card. Tried that & got a message saying it can take up to 10 days for the money to show in my paypal account. By this time i was turning purple. I then got a friend to send me £2.00 via paypal. This turned up in my account and paid the stupid £1.64.

My account was still limited and was told it will take up to 4 days to be revived. I phoned them again and they reviewed the account over the phone and told me my account was active. I went and checked my paypal account and i had £2.07 in there. they had paid the £1.64 to the seller then gave me £1.71 back. My topup card to this day is still blocked with my money in it Called RBoS and they said i can close my account direct but it will take 28 days to get a cheque or i can wait 48 hours for the block to come off.

Crazy, been using paypal since 2005 and they do this over £1.64 that i didn't even owe. I cant have that, have closed my account, now using another PSP and also closed all my halifax accounts. If they do that with paypal top up cards then who knows what other bad pratices they will take on.

The paypal topup card website states:

"You don’t need a bank account to get a PayPal Top Up Card – so it’s great for young people rather than carrying cash around, the Top Up Card offers a safer payment method which you can use both at home and abroad."

What's safe being somewhere far away from home when you can't access your OWN pre paid money? That's classed as stealing where i live. I have the whole days convos recorded and will be publishing on youtube soon once personal details have been taken out. You wont beleve how they spoke to me
  • I had a negative balance once due to someone opening a not recieved dispute (which im happy to say i got the money back later!), and i wasnt allowed to pay for items etc. I then used paypal to pay for an item from bigwardrobe.com, and it allowed me to pay, plus added the amount i owned to paypal, so it was all good again. That was transfering it from my bank account immediately. So my balance was 0 immediately, if that makes sense?
So like someone else said- get someone to send money into your account,
    Or buy something from bigwardrobe.com
Not sure if it works with other websites.
Sorry if this doesnt make sense... im tired!
