I am attending a medical on Thursday for a medical at the DWP for industrial injuries. Please could anyone advise on what to expect? Also I have recently been refused DLA will the result of this medical help me in an appeal for the DLA? Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Industrial injuries: You need to convince the doctor that you have suffered mental or physical injury becasue of what has happened to you at work. You need to show that this affects you in every day life, not just at work. Could be anything - I saw a chap once who had been bottled by someone when working in a bar- destroyed his confidence, affected his speech, couldn't socialise, was wary of starangers, got avoided by other people who thought he must have been a dangerous sort... basically you need to think of the "you" before the accident and the "you" now. What has changed? Then back it up with examples or evidence. You'll be asked questions, and also have a physical if appropriate.
DLA: vet the medical evidence before you send it in / see CAB or a welfare rights officer for advice: sometimes reports can do more damage than good. be aware of the time limit for appealing.

the dla you should appeal.... the IIB they will ask questions about how you where and what you did then before accident, to what you can do now.and talk about doctors report ect. i had private paid for specialist consultant surgeon, and doctor reports + normal hospital consultant + own doctor reports, the more you have i think the better it is, proof. also i think is got idea i got a few long term friends to write me a letter saying , how much i have and life has chanded due to accident. well i had to appeal after all this, and won on the 20% rate any higher rate you have to be pretty veg half dead state. and went on to win DLA but what hard work can really understand in people giving up ,but had wonderfull help from local disability centre in sorting all this , there is light at the end of tunnel jusy took nearly a year. fingers crossed to you

Jamla, Thanks for the reply. The medical on Thursday seemed to go well and the doctor appeared to be very understanding. He explained that the reason for the medical was to find out what impact the accident has had on my life i.e what i was like before the accident and how i am now. He went on to explain that the decision on the % of disability is made by the people at the Industrial Injuries dept and not him. So I am now waiting to hear the outcome, have been told it should be a couple of weeks.
What surprised me was who makes the decision. I thought it would have been the doctor and not a person who has not seen
Once again thanks for the reply.
As for DLA I am in the process of appealing.

glad it went ok for you as real scary. i remember him saying about one of my hospital report's that i scored very very highly on the depression questioner , news to me, did'nt even know i done it, shows brain had gone ! lol . but yes it just pick of the doctor at there end who opens the letter and reads your stuff ans agree that your poorly. so appeal if you lost, i did....long story ...won ..lts stress collecting up stuff and evidendent, even went to harley street doctor... nice to get award ... but to lose in in other hand as the other benefits took away 97 % so really in the long term my brother's hard work ,days off for him to come with me to get left with £3... but hey better than nothing ... nice cream cake and half cup of coffee lol xx
