Stupid question re television mounting

Hi Guys
So at the moment our tv is in the corner of our living room on a media stand. We want however to mount it above our fire place to save space in the corner.
Question, its a flat lcd so no probs fitting to wall but how do we incorperate somethong so we can put our sky box and dvd player near it?
How have other people done it. It always looks so neat when u see pictures of tvs on the wall over fireplaces but i have no idea how or where the sky box etc goes.
Do you fit a shelf somewhere and what about hanging wires???

Our living room tv is mounted and the power lead and scart lead have been fed through the back of the wall behind the tv, and come out of the wall at the side of our sofa into the plug socket and sky box respectively. This gives a nice neat "floating" effect.
We also have a smaller tv in the bedroom but the 2 leads here are held by trunking. Our walls are painted white so the trunking blends in well. This isn't as asthetically pleasing, but it's not too bad

Yes the pictures in the glossy brochures never show pictures with the wires attached do they?!!!
Depends whether or not you have a fire in the fireplace.
If nothing in the fireplace then all your boxes go at the bottom (in what was the fireplace) with the wires going up and into the tv through a hole drilled in the wall.
If you don't want to drill, or chase, through the wall then lay the wires on the surface and use a surface conduit painted the same colour as the wall.
Another alternative is to box in the receiver, dvd, etc and just leave a small hole for the remote to operate.0 -
Don't give yourself a neck ache by mounting your tv too high. Ideally your eye level should be no more than a third from the bottom of the screen."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

Make certain that wherever you decide to site the Sky Receiver that it is well ventilated, lack of ventilation will prematurely age the receiver.0

As nice as it appears in new home brochures, mounting a TV on the wall is rarely the best place to view it.
Think about whether you want to look "cool" or if you want to actually watch your TV.

Wall mounted looks smart, but over the fireplace looks plain stupid. Far too high and too 'in your face'.
(but that is merely my opinion)0
