Strange ID Theft of sorts!

I have now received a a letter from Premier Man after my request for various information that VALLI mentions above. According to them the account was opened in 1999 and almost £2000 has been spent and all orders and correspondence has been sent to the account address (They have not said what this address is). Also, according to them, they do not keep any records of what has been ordered once the it has been processed.
This is all they have come back with until today where I have now had two letters stating I owe the amount listed above plus an additional £12 for late-payment. One of these letters states they have attempted to communicate with me many times and have failed. As a result they have undertaken investigations to trace my whereabouts and local sources have confirmed that I am still resident!
They are not giving me any information or seem to be taking any interest in sorting this out, but instead, keep sending me increasingly threatening letters with the outstanding amount and demands to pay it.
Does anybody have any suggestions of where I can go with this. I have written back to them and again insisted that the account was closed years ago and I have not made any orders or had any correspondence with them since 2002.
Thanks.
well as long as its definately not you, and they dont have records they can never possibly justify court appointed bailiffs to seize your possessions so dont worry
they may however appoint debt collectors
my advice, ignore them
keep all letters posted with dates you received them and notes of phone calls
if they do send debt collectors, close and lock the door and tell them to leave, if they do not then call the police
if they are bailiffs (which they wont be because no court in their right mind would approve them with no evidence) then ask for the court notice
so yeh they are trying it on, ignore it all
if you want to complain contact consumers direct and they will point you in the right direction as im unsure who would be best to complain tooBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -

I thought you said you hadn't bought anything from them .....Hi all,
I wasn't too sure where to post this item. Hope its ok here. I hope somebody can help me out here.
On the 15th May I received a letter from a company called Reliable Collections LTD. They claim to be working on behalf of their client called PremierMan. Their letter states I owe them an outstanding balance of £746.35. They also claim to have tried to contact me on numerous occasions to get this debt settled. This is the first letter I have got from them and no phone calls have been made to me.
The problem is, I have not shopped with Premier Man, but they are insistent that it is my account and I am liable for the debt. They state that the account is 9 years old and payments have been made up to December of 2008. I have checked all my bank/credit card statements and can not find any evidence of payments being made to this company (I was worried about ID theft).
They claim that the address they have (which is mine) is correct. However, I have lived here for just over 3 years and prior to that this property was an office.
I am not sure what has happened, but it would appear that somebody has got a catalogue from them, made an order, paid for some of the merchandise and stopped paying in December 2008.
Can anyone advise me on what I can do with this situation as they are threatening to send a doorstep debt collection company round by the 22nd if I have not made the payment.
Many thanks in advance.

I have been doing some research and found that many years ago there was an account in my name at an old address which was shut down in 2002. So in fact I have not shopped or had any dealings with them since 2002. But they are claiming that since then, I have re-opened the account and have been shopping with them spending close to £3000 in total and paying via installments until December 2008 when all payments stopped, leaving an outstanding balance of £746.35 to be paid. But as said before, I have not shopped with them, or least since 2002, when everything was paid in full and the account closed. I have asked them for various information about orders, payments and delivery addresses etc and they just come back with “The Account Address”, but won’t tell me what that address is and they claim they can not tell me what was ordered as they do not keep a record of any orders once the order has been shipped!0

I think you need to put this thread on the debt free wanabe board0

If the last contact you had with this company was in 2002 & you have received nothing further until 2009 they cannot claim against you anyway as any alleged debt would be statute barred.

As others have said i would continue to only correspond in writing & advise them to cease & desist making calls or you may consider a claim for harassment.0 -
I have now had even more threatening letters from Reliable Collections. They say that my conduct in this matter is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Also that goods have been delivered to my address and I have made little effort to pay for them.
Aside, from the above, never have any items from Premier Man ever been delivered to my address. Nor have I ever ordered anything from them since the account was closed in 2002.
I also have at least 1 if not 2 or 3 messages on my home phone asking me to call them. I have asked them to converse with me by writing only, but they will keep calling.
I am now taking action to talk to Consumer Direct and am now considering legal action against them for harassment.0 -
Oh for gods sake, if it's been longer than 6 years and you've not admitted to the debt at all in that time, then they have NO Claim against you for it. This is due to some statute of limitation iirc. If however you have admitted in some way to the claim, using the account again after a duration of time would count as such. Then you are liable for the whole debt.
That said if you've not admitted to teh debt, but have now sent them information of which they're now using to persue as the person that owes the money, then I'm a little out of my depth. So would advise you to go here: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/ as they're much better placed, they have a wealth of forums dedicated to debt and are better placed to advise you.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
i also got the same letter the other day and my balance with them is £0-00 had 5 threating letters over the last few months including the first and the one above .....saying i have the goods and made little effort to pay .......i sent them a recorded delivery letter threating them with trading standards if they dont stop ...how can i pay them anything when i owe them nothing0

I'd suggest you stop wording things in the manner you've been doing THEV5. If i've understood things correct you have never bought anything from this company but someone else had been doing so up until 2002 in your name. However the way you word it since on here, and presumably in correspondance with the company sounds like you are saying "Yes I was a customer until 2002 but I haven't bought anything since" Why say this to them if it's not the case? Why not jsut say "I've never been a customer, it appears someone using my name was up until 2002 but this has nothing to do with me!"Bought, not Brought0
