martins guide says that when writing to your bank to reclaim unlawful charges that in the 1st instance you can just write to your 'local branch'.
does this 'local branch' need to be the same one as your sort code.
personally i used to live in london and have never gotten round to switching my sort code to my 'uup north' local branch in the chester region.
my gut tells me the local branch in chester would probably deal with the enquiry quicker than my sort coded branch in london but will they accept my letter? or if i send the letter to my 'local branch' will they just forward it to my sort coded branch in london?
what do u recon?
should i send 2 just to be sure one to my local branch and one to the branch as specified in my sort code?
im with barclays if this makes a difference.

I would write to the branch your account is held with in the first instance.3 stone down, 3 more to go0

I would write to their head office as the branches do not deal with bank charges claims where they are UTCCR 1999 related. The branch will simply forward it on delaying the right department looking at it earlier.0

Agreed. Perhaps phoning Barclays to clarify where legal challenges should be addressed will save it passing through too many hands and ultimately delaying their generic response letter.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
phone barclays no i will end up with some indian in mumbay, you always get a delhi call centre now. some customer service. they put you on hold for ages when you correct their lack of knowledge and i hate it not that the uk ones were much better.
call into my branch. THAT i respect.
this site suggests sending the claim to the local branch.
I just got back now from hand delivering it to my local branch. As far as branches go its probably well run.
one expects they will forward it to the appropriate section with a minimum of fuss.
regarding UTCCR 1999 I just looked it up now, Im not sure martins guide mentioned this directly.
hopefully my branch will forward the letter, they must do really since im sure lots of people are doing likewise since its what this site advises and i do see success stories from barclays on this forum

what do you mean by generic response letter?
I thought once recieved the claim was assessed and a number of possibilities could occur. you seem to suggest this will not be so0 -

In my honest opinion I think that the site advice is wrong and that that specific part of the guide may need relooking at. Have you got the link cos I can ask site team to have a look or I can PM a board guide to have a look.

All they will do is forward it on.

UTCCR 1999 is the basis of your claim. You should always expect to have to go to court on a claim(even though the likelihood is pretty low). UTCCR 1999 is the basis of your claim. IF the basis is that bank charges are penalties in Law then you lose your case cos that is not correct anymore. UTCCR 1999 is the basis of your claim. You need to try and read it and understand why you are reclaiming bank charges.

I don't agree with the advice of sending it to the branch. Hardship claims on Barclays are dealt with in Andover which I do have the details for if required.
Generic response= template letter response ie a response sent to everyone.0 -
I thought Andover was for Lloyds hardship claims?natweststaffmember wrote: »Hardship claims on Barclays are dealt with in Andover which I do have the details for if required.0 -
