Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
got my bill in and its massive.
Switched from edf, in september, my yearly bill was £988 for gas & electric with edf paid by dd never in the red.
Got my 1st bill in from n power, for £1189.50 since september and my usage is slightly under last years usage for the same time scale,(its not even a 1 year yet) I now owe them £750 after my dd payments. They have offered to up the dd to £189 or make the full payment now split over a month.
Any advice.

Are they using accurate meter readings to calculate what you owe?

Are they calculating your gas correctly - converting metric or imperial units appropriately?

Can you afford to pay the lump sum/increased DD? If not, what could you offer?

Remember that there were huge price increases too in the past year. So dunno if it's N-Power or not tbh.

I am with nPower and last year I did not have this policy of theres where they charge the majority of the expensive units during the winter. They used to average the expensive units over the whole 12 months.

Last winter my bill was 250 GBP. This winter because of this laoding of the units 650 gbp.

Then the nasty npower people say you are not paying enough knowing full well that the cost of the gas is going to be very little over the summer due to no heating and there policy of massively over charging during the winter.

So check your bill and let us know how many expensive units you have been charged over the period then we will know if they have applied what is know as sculpting to you.

Also check the bills are not estimates. As npower like to send me esitmated bills that have double the consumption I use historically (there bill proves this has a nice little graph on it to compare periods) then they say your direct debit needs to double becuase of npower fiddled calculations.

In the last three months I have been billed £1000 for both gas and electric.
In January this year we came off a fixed rate plan with Scottish Power, and then we started getting massive bills.
Last night I watched a recording of Watchdog, they were reporting mistakes with the readings of some gas meters namely, imperial type, and metric type, I am one of those who thinks "it never happens to me" in this case it has.
For the last 3 years I have been billed in imperial readings instead of Metric!! In other words they have multiplyed my bills for gas by 2.83......
Scottish power are on the case and promised to give me my money back as soon as possible:j....
And so...If you have high bills ...check your gas meter type...it could happen to you!
