SD Card reader/writer help needed!

I have bought the following SD card reader/writer, and need some help!
http://www.ledshoppe.com/Product/com/CA2018.htm
It reads any SD card fine, but when I try to write to any of them, it always says the card is "write-protected".
Obviously I have checked that the SD cards are not locked! (And there is no switch/lock of any kind on the reader itself). I have used the reader on several PC's (all of which are quite new), so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem, and I have used the SD cards on another card reader/writer, and they work fine, so it can't be the cards!
Can anyone please help?! (or is the item definitely faulty?!)
I have sent an email to the seller but as yet not got a response. I'm guessing they won't really help, or may ask me to return the item, which would be pointless as it was posted from Hong Kong so would probably cost me more to send it back than it did to buy it in the first place!
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

PS - It should also read/write to MMC cards, and I managed to borrow one from a friend, but the PC wouldn't recognise the device at all when it had a MMC card in it!

It def sounds like the reader is faulty s youv'e tried other pc's, card readers etc
As you say if they won't pay for return postage it might be better to cut your losses and bin it. You can get one from here http://www.directusbstore.co.uk/cnb/shop/directusbstore?listPos=0&op=catalogue-products&prodCategoryID=25 for under a tenner if it helps. Sorry I can't be anymore helpful.0 -
Thanks Terry... I suspected as much.
Unless anyone else has any suggestions?!0 -
Anyone?
:undecided0 -
how big is the SD card? Some readers have an upper limit0
-
It's 512MB.... do you think that's above the limit?
I should be able to try it using a 128MB card at the weekend.0 -
I cant see a 512mb should be a problem-it's about the norm these days-if it will only take a 128mb card I wouldn't bother with it0
