Depends on how much credit you have already. You can check on moneysupermaket.com for best deals on credit cards etc

Unlike MoneySavingExpert, this is a profit-driven service that lists some, but not all best buys, due to its commercial relationships.

You can get unbiased credit card suggestions here on MSE, if you click on Martin's *Best Balance Transfers* article.

For a comprehensive list of 0% balance transfers cards, updated regularly and not influenced by advertising commissions, the stoozing site, which is sponsored by MoneySavingExpert, is hard to beat ;)

You might not be able to get a good mainstream card until you build your credit up a bit. You might have been rejected though as Virgin are run through MBNA. Try another card to see if you get accepted.

IME and from feedback here, MBNA doesn't mind customers holding more than one card. I have held three at once.

That said, if there's a balance on your current MBNA card, particularly if it's still charged at special promotion rates, you can certainly be turned down or handed a lowish credit limit by MBNA.

Very true, but sometimes you can only get certain offers through moneysupermarket due to their 'commercial relationships'

But its always good to check out a few websites to get the best deal

For tips to improve your chances of credit card acceptance, have a look at the *Credit Rating: how it works and how to improve it guide*, especially Martin's *Manage and Improve your credit score* article

To maximise the 0% period, 13 months is currently available to new customers from Halifax on balance transfers made in the first 90 days. There's a 3% BT fee.
Minimum monthly payment is just 1% of the balance shifted ;)
