Warning Boots Kitchen Appliances

I ordered a washing machine from them (Next & Sainbury's kitchen appliances are the same people), paying £19.99 for connection & £7.99 to have the old washing machine uplifted. They sent an email advising that the old machine must be disconnected before they arrive. As it takes under a minute to disconnect the cold fill I waited until they arrived to do this.

The delivery men then said they couldn't fit the new one as the water pressure was too high! They abandoned the new machine in the middle of my lounge and left, saying they'd arrange a refund for this part of the bill. I got a phone call telling me to ring Boots to arrange the refund. Boots refused to refund saying their terms and conditions state that the old machine must be disconnected before they arrive.

I pointed out that this wasn't what had stopped it being fitted but they refused to budge. I pointed out I'd been promised a refund by the delivery men and they said then they would reprimand them for this. I asked if they took no repsonsibilty for what their customers were told and they said no they didn't, as all the drivers were self-employed.

I called a plumber who fitted the new machine in under 5 minutes, including kindly moving the old one out and the new one in for me (I'm disabled with arthritis). He said and I quote, "I hear this all the time, they use any excuse to avoid fitting the new machines. Normally they use low water pressure as their excuse but mains pressure is always the same, neither high nor low".

Legally Boots are covered by their Ts & Cs but I feel shabbily treated. They are using these as an excuse to avoid refunding me. I've paid them £27.98 to have the new machine dumped in the lounge where it actually blocked access to the door.

Avoid!

Don't even get me started on this company. We have had three appliances from them and every single one was faulty. One of the washing machines didn't work at all so while you may have these issues over fitting, be grateful it actually worked.

I must say the delivery men that brought our broken replacement were brilliant and with their help we did in fact negotiate and receive financial recompense from Boots.

I don't know if it has changed in the last year, but Boots appear to actually simply be an agent for DRL Limited Kitchen Appliances in Bolton.

    Correct - it's DRL.

Ring up Boots and give them hell. Ask to speak to a Cust Services manager.
