We don't have a problem with paying back the money once she graduates but to do so now would be impossible.
I really don't mean this to sound harsh, but by your own admission she received a loan for a year in which she was not a student. That's why repayment has been requested now. My only surprise is that it wasn't requested at the time. The scope for exploitation of the system would be huge if it was any other way.
Having said that, has she spoken to anyone at her Uni, maybe the student welfare office in the union?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

The risk is that the slc will demand the loan back (or at least for the proportion of time that she wasn't a student) and her inability to repay it will mean they take it from future payments she is due. So she may have to manage without any maintenance loan until she has cleared the debt!
Not want you want to hear I am sure, but better to be prepared. I suppose not receiving new money is one step better than them taking action to demand it back now, but it does leave a funding gap for the present time.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Too many unknowns.
Future earnings?
Plan 1 loan or plan 2?
How many years before it is written off?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I wanted to seek some help and advice from you on my student finance eligibility. I came to the UK in September 16th 2010 and I have been living in the UK ever since. I don’t have settled status. I’m in the UK under a leave to remain residence permit. I went to school till 2019 where I finished my alevels. I wanted to go to university straight after but student finance told me I’m 27 days too short of having lived in the UK to qualify since you need to have lived in the UK for half of your life. So I decided to take a gap year and have been away from the uk since this July. I plan on coming back within the next month. I’m afraid that I ruined my eligibility by going away since you need to have been in the UK for 3 years prior to your course. However I also read on UKcisa that a gap year counts as temporary absence and it should not count. I recently sent a message to SFE regarding this issue on twitter but they said that I wouldn’t be eligible since an absence more than 3 months isn’t temporary however I haven’t seen any laws on this and my visa also allows me to be out of the country 6 months a year. I’m really lost on what to do since I don’t want to apply and ruin my chances since my university has already given me a home status. I could just try and pay without student loans but I’m afraid if I apply then SFE will tell the university if I’m not eligible.
Also I am not European and I’m from Iran and have spent my time in Iran since July as part of my gap year. My plan was to spend the 6 months allowed in Iran and work for the rest in UK.
I would really appreciate your advice on this issue.0 -

Your university fee status and your SFE status are not linked. You did mess up your eligibility by travelling and living abroad. You won't be eligible for a while now.0 -
But then why does ukcisa mean by saying a gap year is classed as temporary absence? Can I not do anything to show my absence was obviously temporary?0

Ukcisa are not SFE! Who enforce the rules0 -
Hi
I had 3 student loans taken out in 1995 and 1996. I had these in deferment for a long time and then began making repayments in September 2017 as I began earning more than the threshold for deferment.
My loan was originally with SLC and is now administered by Erudio.
I have two questions:
1. Are my loans eligible to be written off and if so, when?
2. The threshold for deferrment and I earn less than the new threshold. Can I start deferring again?
Thanks in advance for your help:j Getting there :j
