Animation for kids?

Hello everyone
I was thinking about getting my 9 yr old into animation, as it may be a fun, creative thing to do, and was wondering if anyone could recommend any software/freeware that would be a good starting point. I was mainly thinking about using digital camera images to create small movies using their toys, etc.
cheers

There are a few open source programs about, but as I have no creative ability, I can't say if they are easy to use.

Pencil is one, though it seems sketch-based, not photographic:

There are better known ones such as Blender and Tagtool, but I think they are all a bit too complex for a 9 year old.
  • Pivot animation is a free and easy little program that let's you animate a stickman. My 12 year old has it and does lots of funny little cartoons.

It is pretty basic, but might be an easy and enjoyable starting point.
