Parking ticket

Hopefully this is in the right place...

I've just been issued with a fixed penalty notice, for an alledged offence that happened at the beginning of February! It's £120 if I pay now, £180 if it's not paid within 14 days <what!?! - it 'happened' three and a half months ago!!!>

Anyway, this has been issued by the parking department in Southwark - the car was 'parked' in an area inside the Congestion Charge Zone. I have certainly never been chased for payment by TFL for infringement of Congestion Charge ruling nor, I feel I can VERY safely say, have I EVER driven into London during the CC period due to absolute principle, and never have since it came into force - take that, Boris!

I had the car on the day of the 'offence' and it was with me, at work, in Croydon, all day. I have emails to and from clients all day that can prove this.

Where do I stand?

Apparently, I have to represent myself in person if I wish to appeal. I have yet to hear whether photographic evidence is available. Even if my car number plates had been cloned (which was one reason I thought this may have happened), I'd have received the bill from TFL, wouldn't I? Having been in touch with TFL, they are unable to say whether the car was in the zone or not, dishing out some spiel I really don't understand about how when bills are not paid by midnight the images are pushed to another department when non-payment is flagged up and then other stuff about how the images are deleted after a certain amount of time yadda yadda yadda...

God, the more I write, the more it winds me up. Can anyone relate to the situation..?

Thanks in advance

  • Be careful. I've heard that the CC lot aren't too clever when it comes to playing fair.

Agree with above but clean up your post (less emotion and clear facts).

You may have been cloned or it may just be a misread.

I'm speculating but IMO it is the document, whatever it is, that has been misread.

What on earth has Southwark got to do with congestion charging when he has already recognised what the contravention allegation is! ? (clarified on PeP).
