itunes and transfering music to SD cards

Hi can anyone help me transfer/copy music from itunes to an SD card.

I have just bought a car that has two SD card slots and I would like to transfer some music from my itunes playlists to the cards to play in my car.

I have bought the card reader writer but for the life of me I cannot work out how to transfer to the card.

I have obviously tried the burn button expecting to see the card reader in the drop down list but no luck.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
David

    Hi,

It is easy. Open up two windows i.e. iTunes and the blank SD card. click on tune(s) you want to copy and drag to SD card, alternatively Ctrl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste. Both work for me and I can also copy playlists so wife and I have our own selections.

  • Hi Missile
Did that worked like a charm , except that when I inserted it into my car slot (brand new Audi) it gave the message "no playable tracks on card".

I can see that they are on the card using my computer.

Have you any other ideas , I assume its something to do with the itunes file format.

    Thanks again for your help

    Hi,

itunes songs are saved as AAC i doubt your in-car player can read that format. See what formats your car can play then transfer the songs you want into that format.

Tracks bought from itunes are usually in an ACC format (Advanced Audio Coding) and have the suffix M4A M4B or M4P appended to them). Your Audi is probably expecting MP3 files.

If you are using Itunes to convert the tracks from a CD then you should have an option to 'rip' them as MP3 (thoughh an ACC format is the default).

If you have bought M4A files then you have two options -
    1. burn them to a CD and the rip them to MP3
    2. use a conversion program. There are alot of freeware programs that can do this. I pesonally use 'Free M4a to MP3 Converter' which you can obtain from here - http://www.maniactools.com/soft/m4a-to-mp3-converter/?version=6.0

It worked fine for me :j The player in my Audi Q5 plays all the file formats as copied from my iTunes folder. Speak to your friendly Audi dealer and he will no doubt demonstrate how easy it is for you .

  • Hi and thanks to everyone that contributed ,much appreciated.

I thought I would give feedback in case anyone else is having the same problem.

The first thing I have learned is that when you are first putting your music on I tunes (i.e the cd’s you already have not purchases) you can set your preferences to store them as MP3 files.

If you know up front and do that there is no problem when you transfer your music to SD cards or whatever.

That being said all my files were stored as M4P itunes files.

The guys at Audi didn’t have a clue either.

Special thanks to Quietishone as his suggestion to use the 'Free M4a to MP3 Converter' was the solution for me an added bonus being that it was free, thanks.

Any way I am set up now .

    Best
