Hopefuly v. quick answer to this!
I need to find my processor speed on my old puter so I can tell if I can upgrade to Win XP from Win 98. Cant find the speed in any of the utility functions.
It's a Pentium III currently with Win 98. I've tried to enable the Intel CPU serial number Utility to look it up but cant seem to enable it.
Alternatively, if someone can confirm that Pentium III's are normally more than 233mHz, I'd be really thankful.
Cheers!
Dee

WCPUID should tell you:
WCPUID Link
The slowest P3 was 450MHz I believe.
As a sidenote, you have the minimum specs for XP, but you should check memory requirements as well. This is probably more important than your CPU for general Windows.
If you find yourself with a P3-500 and 128Mb, it might satisfy the criteria, but it will be quite slow.
Any specific reason why you're upgrading?0 -
Right click Properties on the My computer icon on your desk top should tell you. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thank you Nickmack!
I just got a fantastic Walkman mobile phone and the PC2phone software needs at least Windows 2000.
I'm still debating between upgrading Windows or getting one of the Dell laptops."Life is like a game of cards. If you mean the W800i, I have that phone as well, very good!
At the end of the day, the choice is yours, but depending on what you use the PC or, you may find XP quite a bit slower.
With the money you will spend on upgrading your CPU/RAM and buying a retail version of XP, you have got close to your new laptop with enough CPU/RAM and get the subsidised XP OEM thrown in.0 -

I've got the lesser W550i and its fab! Want to load the music, grrrrr! So annoying to get an amazing free phone then have to fork out for a puter stuff before you can use it properly....nickmack wrote:At the end of the day, the choice is yours, but depending on what you use the PC or, you may find XP quite a bit slower.

I installed XP on my sister's machine. Intel Celeron 733 with 256 RAM. Runs OK.
You can use CPU-Z to tell you what processor you have:

I definitely wouldn't bother trying to run XP on you PC if it has less than 256Mb of RAM. Any less than this and it will be mind-bogglingly sloooooooowwwww zzzzzzzz0
