Thanks for your replies Helena. E.ON said payment will now have to go through the debt collection agency.

I asked the debt collection agency why it had taken so long and they couldn't answer, I didn't ask E.ON.

Letters were sent to Eon on moving in and out of the premises with readings as requested by our letting agent at the same time as we wrote to our gas supplier. The gas supplier setup the account yet the electric one failed to.

Did you send the letters or were these sent by the letting agent?

If it was the letting agent, have they sent the gas and electricity information separately? if this is the case it may be the reason that one of the accounts was not set up.

Do you remember paying a final bill to the reads you provided when you left the property? (I know this is a long time ago )

The letters were done by us as we were told to inform you of the opening and closing reads by the letting agent. There were 2 different accounts for gas and electricity. I am not sure who the gas was with.
