Am I getting screwed for gas on a pre-payment meter?

Has anyone any experience with haggling for better rates when you are a pre-payment customer with a card meter?

We've still got one as a left over from sorting ourselves out a few years ago, and largely find it quite a convenient way to budget for paying and no sudden big surprises in the post so haven't wanted to change back. But it's recently started to be around 60-70% more expensive (even given the time of year).

When you put your money on the card you have no negotiation room as to the unit price you are buying, and all the suppliers seem to make their various deals pre-payment exempt. Are we being ripped off?

BTW, there's no debt or anything left, it's just the cost of gas plus standing charges. The card supplier is British Gas.
