Public liability insurance needed for a sole trader?

Options
My husband has just been offered work as a ceramic tiler on a self-employed basis. He needs public liability insurance and I wondered if anyone could recommend a good, fairly priced insurer.

I found a couple of sites on the web who quoted about £80.00 for the year but having not done this before, I don't know if this is a good price.
Any and all help gratefully received :)

It's often worth using an insurance broker for out of the ordinary insurance business. And have you looked on the Insurance board? Don't know if there's anything there or not ...

If you need a couple of places to look Busterkeye, I had quotes for £78.75 from both Axa insurance and the Groupama group via www.startups.co.uk. Both are for basic Public liability and cover for you for £2,000000.

  • That sounds like a fair price to me. Although in a different trade, painting & decorating in my case, mine was £92 I think which i thought was ok. I did mine online with insuranceservices.co.uk and the policy is with Groupama I think.

If you are a member of a trade association you might find that they offer you cover. I pay £10 a year through mine for 5 million cover
