Merry Christmas from A&L via MBNA

Options
Just taken out an A&L card with 9 months 0%. The max charge is STILL £35, not the new £50.

6 working days for SBT to reach current account, though I think their top limit is only£5k, so max BT £4k7.

Merry Chrismas thanks MBNA, next Banco Santander :D

All the Best especially to GAL, bless his lowland cotton socks. ;D

    Scat,

This depends on the T&C's on the application form that you fill in. There are different versions out there - some with £35, some with £50 and some unlimited.
    max BT £4k7.
Not sure what you mean by £4k7. Can you explain?
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)
  • Sorry sog (son of ...) ;)

£4k7 is shorthand for £4700, tho not very much shorter, and is the max they allow you to transfer with £5000 credit limit, which is the limit for new A&L cards  i think.

Merry Christmas,  to all,....(sod it)  BOTH sides of the Pennines

PS, I miss the lack of thread posts under the composing box :( hence Mod.)

    Re max bt fee,
the nice young lady what did my sbt was also surprised that it was still £35, as £50 came in 6 weeks before I applied on line. T&C's came with the acceptance offer letter Monday. I was able to transfer as they had just receiived my signed agreement when I rang them. ;D

If you have any other unused MBNA card(s) you can move the balance from them to the A&L card before you do the transfer...

So they charged you for the first BT on a new card? We just got an Abbey card with no charge for the first BT - I think ???
    I'm married now! Yippee!
  • I'm not sure what happened but i applied for the A&L online 4 weeks ago, received card with 5k limit. Worked out that even with the charge for bt would save a lot of interest as my Halifax 9 months was just about to expire. BT'd 4,800 leaving 200 credit available. Also I rang to query what circumstances would the charges not apply for BT (as stated in t&c's) they couldnt clarify this but according to my first very speedy statement there were no charges. Would these appear later on - I'm hoping not but ok if they do as I knew the score. Weird how applications are all treated so differently by the same company though.

I think you mean move the spare credit limit not any balance. :)

Unlikely - whenever I've incurred a BT fee, both the BT and fee were debited to my account simultaneously.

I am waiting for my A & L card.  I have had notification of £5,000 limit. When applying by phone I specifically asked about charges for BTs.  They advised that as long as I made a transfer to them under the initial opening offer I should be free of charges.  Thereafter charges apply.  Their T & C are vague.  Section 1f states 'We may charge a handling fee for balance transfers'.

Worth checking this out when you make your initial transfer.

Further update on A & L charges. I phoned to make my transfer and was advised that BTs are free of charges during the life of the 0% offer. However these are free when you do this by phone only. If you put down on the application form a BT you want then the system does not allow for free BT for some reason. The same is the case if a BT is made over the internet. There are no buttons to click for free BT. I was advised by them to do all BTs over the telephone to ensure there are no charges.
That is why they say in T & C that they may make charges.
