Shigella in Egypt

I have come across this in lots of reviews now, and apparently the hygiene is really poor, water contaminated with faeces is used to wash food, and the pool water looks clean but is contaminated.
When the people get home and get tested, as they have stomach upset, they have Shigella (basically they ingested poo).
I really want to go to Egypt, but this is really putting me off, has anyone stayed at a hotel in Sharm that is clean and they didn't get ill?
I feel sick now just thinking about it.

Have you thought about a Cruise on the River Nile, I did this in March and it was amazing, The ship I stayed on was spotless, cabins cleaned twice a day, food was delicious, no tummy upsets on ship at all. Visited all the great sites of Egypt. I loved it and would do the cruise again. I went with Youtravel.com, excellant

I can recommend the Sofitel at the far end of the bay. Stayed there last year and had no health probs whatsoever although we only ever has breakfast there.
When we went out at night we ate at Hard Rock and TGI's and the Hilton and it was all totally fine.
However we did have a chinese which is at the shopping mall just along from the Camel Bar which was horrific. It looked really nice and had pics of Tony Blair and his family there (should have known really..) but the meal was very poor quality. I suffered for about 24 hours after that.

I really like Egypt and tbh there are plenty places that are safe to eat so just do you research when you get there i.e. ask fellow brits & yanks where they eat.

Also take some hand sanitizer with you;it's a godsend.

we go to egypt and rarely have problems with stomach issues, we eat salads, have ice cubes etc etc which everyone says not to

if we have any sign of anything we take Antinal which u can buy out there and it stops it straight away, get in early tho dont wait til u have severe symptoms.. as i say tho we rarely need it.... where we go they check the pools prob 3/4 times a day (rihana. el gouna)

people tend to blame the food etc but often its because they are in a VERY hot country and drinking lots of alcohol and eating lots of food and getting way too much sun, u get dehydrated and need to drink LOTS of water

some tips... dont drink any water unless its bottled, use this for teeth cleaning too
use the handgel a lot especially after handling the money as its often filthy
buy antinal and take it as soon as u feel any wobble in your tum
    drink LOTS of water
dont over do the sun its flippin hot, u can still get a tan under the umbrella
