Contents insurance: Monthly payment too high?

We bought the house and took building and contents insurance for the property. Building insurance is separate and through the leaseholder, so we can't do anything about it. As for home contents insurance: monthly payments are £30 for £13,000 insured sum. Is it average or too high? We still have time to cancel it without penalty

£30 a month does seem quite high, however I would be more worried about your sum insured as it looks very low. It is incredibly important that you have a sum insured that is sufficient to cover replacing your entire contents at their new prices.

The average home is thought to have approximately £40000 of contents.

I would suggest you shop around and chose a policy that offers a good balance of cover and a good premium. But more importantly look for a policy with a more realistic contents sum insured.

Impossible to say whether an insurance premium is 'too high' as the price will reflect the postcode area etc.

I pay £28 per month for buildings & unlimited contents cover including accidental damage. This is a London postcode.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
