Then you're making much more work for yourself than is necessary.
If your parents had their vacuum replaced it may have been that it was not economical to repair or that there was no repair agent available so in that instance a replacement was viable.
You're right it does say "without significant inconvenience", but it also says you have to allow time for a retailer to repair the item - the "without significant inconvenience" was designed to stop retailers/repairers having a family's fridge freezer for 3 weeks, not for consumers to expect an immediate replacement/refund.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

all i want argos to do is take responsibility and sort it out, we'll get to the point where there have it for weeks with no repair once it happens0

Secondly VAX offer a courier service (the assistant/manager should have given you an orange card with how to arrange it with VAX) and they usually offer a very quick turnaround [48 hrs if I'm remembering correctly], and sometimes VAX replace the unit if it can't be repaired.
It won't be weeks, it will probably be a 48-72hr turnaround providing VAX doesn't suspect you've misused it.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

what harm is it mentioning the SOG act, and getting what you want?? and not having to put up with vax?0

There's no harm in mentioning the Sale of Goods Act whatsoever, but as myself and Brooker Dave have already mentioned by the time you have put everything in writing etc you could have had your VAX repaired and returned to you at no cost to yourself!
If you wish to quote the Sale of Goods Act then make sure you are fully informed because I and many others frequently hear customers misquoting it and entirely leaving out the part where it says that after a "reasonable amount of time" the consumer can request a certain remedy, but it is the ultimate decision of the retailer. If you want to take it to court then it's starting to make mountains out of molehills.
By all means go back to the store and query it further but I honestly think your chances of getting a replacement/refund/exchange after 9 months use are unlikely because VAX offer a quick repair service - all Argos are asking you to do is to telephone and arrange the repair yourself, which is IMO really not that much of an issue - when you mention that you want Argos to "take responsibility" what are you expecting? An automatic replacement? It's not likely to happen after 9 months use because it's not economical to hand out replacements and refunds willy nilly, and 9 months use ISN'T an unreasonable amount of time for a frequently used item such as this to develop a fault.
As I am writing again, if you dig your heels in and want Argos to repair it then you will be responsible for bringing it to the store and waiting for VAX to pick it up from the store, then you will need to go back to the store when it comes back and pick it up - whereas if YOU arrange it with VAX they can pick it up from your preferred location, repair it or replace it as they see necessary and then re-deliver it back to your location.
Argos isn't saying there isn't a fault and refusing to do anything about it, but they are suggesting the easiest path to getting the situation resolved after 9 months use.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

They'll just instruct you to ring Vax to get it collected.
Why make such a simple thing so difficult???"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Because the SOG has nothing to do with it. and pretending you know about the SOG act won't help matters."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Getting "what you want" or "what you are entitled to".
Most of these appliances have a sticker with a telephone number on for good reason. The manufacturers offer a quick efficient repair / replacement service. After 9 months the retailer has a right to have an expert inspect the goods, guess who that will be. Why let common sense get in the way of your perceived rights under the SOGA.0 -
I have used the vax in-home repair service,it was fantastic.
These repair systems are in place because unfortunately people misuse appliances. Why should argos or indeed vax have to cover these costs.
They replaced my cleaner and didnt have the hassle of carting it into the store,or indeed working myself up to a rage !
Buy a henry hoover next time !!!! more reliable.0 -
