Am I missing something here or is there someone else paying for the holidays? (benefits alone, or the CS amount plus tax credits wouldn't give that kind of lifestyle, without as Zara already mentioned an increasing debt).

The our debts are more important certainly shows why some absent parents are the absent parent.

I recently had a load of stuff through the door re child benefit as my eldest will be 16 in August when it would be due to stop if she does not continue with certain educational courses.

I think I read in their attached leaflet that 24 hours a week is when the child benefit office deem a child to be working and not in need of child benefits.

It does not seem likely that he is working this amount while he at school - based on the assumption of 2.5 days - however child benefit will stop when he starts that job full time or if he does not continue with certain types of education.

Whilst the family is in receipt of child benefit then maintenance is still due and of course arrears have to be paid off anyway.

That's what I remember but guarantee that's correct.

Dippynina - I feel that you feel a little judged, in my opinion the only people are have any right to judge any of us on how we treat our children are those children, no one knows your circumstances and you don't have to justify them to us. I know that as a parent, all I want to do is be able to look my children in the eye and say I did the best I could for them - the best you can do does not necessarily mean paying the most amount of money to them.

If she is in debt by the sound of it that is down to her, no sympathy! perhaps she owes the CSA and is being hounded :p - but you don't have any sympathy for her but you expect it the other way round though???????:o

If she can now afford to go to these places why not take her children with her so they can see some of this world, and the money is used for the children, or is it just for her!

If she went into debt to pay for these hols and did not take the kids. Not a chance of sympathy, and doubt any sain person would have any either.

If she had taken the kids would be a different situation!!!!

Personally I dont want sympathy as it is found in a dictionary some where between two other things that are not nice either! S*** and syph
