If you're sure no-one will need to drive it at all you could ask your insurance how much you'd save dropping your cover to Accidental Damage, Fire & Theft.

N.B. if you do drop to this the car will NOT be Road legal

In the past ive left the car with a relative, added them as a named driver and left the policy at full comp.

If they choose to drive the car, then its a benefit to yourself as it keeps things ticking over, but if probably will get stored away on the driveway with the handbrake left on.

Another option would be to leave it in your name, and put it on the base, but again sitting still for 6 months is a bit of an issue. You could sell the car, and buy another one when you get back. There are pro's and con's for this..

If you can leave it with a relative, then its an ideal world as the car gets used, and your 6months further up the road into another years ncb.

Don't leave it with the hand brake on. You will come back 6 months later and find the pads stuck to your discs and you could have a nightmare moving your car. Leave your car in gear instead.

Also its not good for your tyres leaving them in one place for a length of time. They need to be rotated every so often to relieve the stress.

Your car also needs to be started every now and then to charge the battery (which could die on you if it loses its charge) and to get a bit of oil around the engine.

A bit off topic I know but could be money saving.
