Hi All,
I'm wanting to update to XP from Win98. I have the disk already and will backup before I proceed. Is there anything else I need to do/be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks alrabbit.
That seems simple enough - but I know it won't be. Nearly everything I've modified on my PC has become an ordeal or an epic. It's me ::)- not it.more dollar$ than sense0 -
Make an SP2 slipstream before you upgrade. It will save you loads of time.
Here's some basic advice to follow.604!0 -
You might find this site worth a visit before upgrading.0

Bloomin heck - who was it who said it was relatively simple? It's like a military operation!
I'm going to take my time over this - looks like too much can go wrong.
I feel another epic coming on.
Thanks to Toxteth& LincsLad.

Hey, just found out how to jump boards!!!!
You may have to check that your system is set to boot from a CD, pop the XP disc in the drive, re-boot & see what happens. (watch the screen for a message during POST). If it doesn't & yours is a current(ish) system it will be capable, it may just not be set to in the bios. its not a problem, but one step at a time :-/0 -
it may just not be set to in the bios.
Thanks Blue Skies,
I will check the bios setting to see if it is set to CD before C :.;)more dollar$ than sense0 -
This really is best approached as though it is a military operation!
If you can save everything of importance on your PC to CD I would recommend doing a clean install of XP rather than an update. This is most likely to provide a trouble free installation.
Make sure you have XP drivers for all you components such as graphics/mobo/printer/soundcard etc.
There are loads of sites giving step by step guides to installing XP
