Email problems

I get the following error message with Outlook Express everytime I try to check my email

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'madasafish.com', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E..........

Everything was working fine until yesterday when I uninstalled McAfee Security Suite as the free subscription had come to an end and installed ZoneAlarm and AVG anti-virus. I have since uninstalled both of these and installed Avast ant-virus - but even if i turn off Windows Firewall I still get the same error message.

I am on broadband connected with a Voyager 240 ASDL modem. I also have Mozilla Thunderbird - but have the same problem.
Thanks for your help

Sounds like McAfee hasn't uninstalled the email scan settings correctly. Not uncommon. The address 127.0.0.1 to which the error message refers is your own PC. Typically it means your email is retrieved by your AV program, processed and then your Outlook Express retrieves the mail from the AV.

Have a look in your account settings in Outlook Express (Tools>Accounts>(Highlight Account)->Properties) then look at the servers tab. It should be something like pop.madasafish.com and smtp.madasafishcom. If there are any reference to McAfee then it's not been removed properly. Check with your ISP for the correct POP and SMTP settings.
  • Thanks for the help - its worked. If I had know it was so simple I could have saved myself hours - next time I have a problem I will ask for help here, its much quicker and easier than trying to sort it out myself!
