I called BT to enquire about getting a landline and broadband. They did the usual checks that came back fine. Then she put me on hold for a while before transfering me to another dept. The second advisor told me I will need to pay a £180 deposit (no, thats not a typing error) as I am assosiated with my ex-husband and he has outstanding on his account. Naturally, I declined.
I called my ex up and he said his account is up to date and is actually with BT now!!
Not only is that a ridiculous amount, but surely they are breeching DPA by discussing his account with me??

Probably are breaching DPA, unless the association is on his credit file under that address.
If so, you need a disassociation to be put on your credit file (or is it his? I can't remember) so that his credit history and yours are taken separately and don't interfere with each other.0 -
Go to the Post Office, yes the good old Post Office, for connection, very reasonable.
