Broken ebay item (battery)

I bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=260382593487
When i was fitting it into my player, the live wire just dropped off the battery end. Am i entitled to a refund? I think that the battery could only have broken due to poor workmanship as i didn't do anything silly but it probably worked when it arrived.
I will email the seller but i'm not sure whether they will agree. The battery i bought it to replace has a very solid connection though that couldn't be broken by pulling on the wires even when i deliberately put force on them.
Also, if i can get a replacement
should i pay postage to send it there? back?
if both should i pay the sellers published rate of £3.99 or would it be reasonable for me to pay their actual postage cost of HK$9.20 (78p)?

If it wasn't well enough built to withstand handling during installation, then it wasn't fit for purpose, and you should be entitled to a replacement or refund.
But looking at the seller's feedback, you probably won't get one.
I would say your best chance would be to ask for a replacement, and give them plenty of time before assuming the worst and leaving negative feedback.
If it's just a failed crimped or soldered connection, it may be fixable.0 -
thanks, i've sent a message to the seller asking how to get a replacement and am waiting on a reply. How long would you suggest waiting?
I cant see into the battery to see how it was attached without taking the plastic coating off the battery so i'll avoid that for now0 -
If seller will not refund voluntairly just open a full paypal chargeback on the basis that item is faulty.
You will have to return it tracked at your own expense, but the seller is obliged to give a full refund including original postage paid.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
