Rac Membership - A Great Deal?

  • Is there any breakdown insurance service which dosnt have pre-recorded phone messages or call centre? Also I dont think any of them include mobile phone breakdown in the cover. :-)

When chosing any insurance company it is a good idea to call their claims/assistance line first to see what the response is like. It could be very different to that on the sales side.

Someone may already have mentioned this but better twice than not at all.....

If you have a Tesco clubcard you can get RAC cover for about a quarter of its normal price. I paid around £12 for personal roadside cover last year and will be doing the same this year. It's not much cheaper than the £13 deal but you can get a similar discount on all their levels of service and there is no messing about with vouchers, etc.

(e.g. one provider is just £32 for home start, onward travel and breakdown cover for you and your spouse)

there is £40 excess for home start on this i think!

From Martins intro it isn't an excess but a limit of £45 for homestart.

...., plus home start cover up to a limit of £45.
  • I have just tried to get this deal on the phone ansd was told categorically that it does not apply to the basic £43 personal roadside cover. You have to buy the approx £80 "Solutions" cover to get the fuel cashback. Can someone please tell Martin?

    Green FLag!
Have been excellent both times i have had to (unfortunately) call them out this year! they came within half an hour both times and I got straight through to a real english speaking person - a rareity in this day and age!
I had to call them out in December 2005 to my house and got £20 compensation as the truck took 70 mins to arrive and they promise to get there within an hour!!!
Think as a woman that travels alone Roadside cover is one of the few things in life worth not scrimping on if the service is A1!

please note that the deadline is 30th June but you must send in WITHIN 7 days of second fuel purchase. So if you get 2nd fill up end of May, they must receive your documentation by first week of June.

When will these big organizations make an offer that is just plain straight forward. I am put off straight away when I find you have to jump through hoops to take advantage

I cant be bothered with stapling receipts together and posting it all off before a certain date and hoping it doesnt go missing in the post

I bank with Smile and pay £7.50 a month which covers me for Green Flag + international travel insurance + Fee & interest free overdraft and more
ok, its £90 a year but where else can you pay for all that by installments without extra fees

Count around £35 for breakdown cover, £40 travel insurance + what I would spend on overdraft fees and interest . I find it a good deal.

i just phoned RAC and they said i could not have the offer without the reference number in the newspaper quoted above, i said i had lost it and insisted on speaking to a supervisor, and the operator clearly did not want that, so, looked up the reference for me and sold me the £43 deal as above. During the long long time he had to read all that compliance malarky to me, i sang to him !!
