Hi all,
Received a letter from Abbey on Friday referring to my recent complaint lodged with them 4 weeks ago (was actually seven weeks ago)! Quote "our research is taking longer than expected because we want to make sure a full investigation is done. If we are unable to complete our investigation beforehand we will write to you again in four weeks time to let you know how we are getting on"

Now, should I write back to them advising that it is actually seven weeks since complaint was lodged and ask them to look at it expediently or should I wait? Please help!! Are they just stalling or has anyone else had this kind of response/success/failure? Thanks in advanceicon9.gif

I doubt they will be stalling, they will have hundreds of other complaints just like yours and they need to collect all the documents relevant to the sale of your policy before they can make a decision, so it can take a while.

If you want to chase it up there is no harm in trying anyway but I hope this helps in explaining what might be causing the hold up ;)

Thanks m. Sent them everything I had including copies of the agreements. Forgot to tell them that OH has insurance through his employment!!! Maybe will drop them another line and mention it?! ;)
  • Since at least September 2006 Abbey offer ppi on a 'non-advised' basis. The PBA cannot infer or recommend it is taken, they can only give the facts. It is upto the customer to decide if the ppi is suitable for them or not. They also get the customer to sign a 'PPI Duty of Care' form which the customer signs either they do want to take or that they dont want to take it. I would imagine they would use that to defend ppi claims.

Might as well let them know ;) and make sure they note down that it is another complaint point - try and give details about what the cover is and how it covers your OH.

First loan was taken out in 2003 and we disputed the PPI at the time. Subsequent loans were top ups and all we got was the letter confirming new loan amount, amount repaid to subsequent loan and monthly payments. No convo re; did we want PPI, only noticed it had been added recently. Didn't sign Duty of Care form.

Decided to phone Abbey today for an update on PPI reclaim as eight weeks are up! Was as advised that the 8 weeks doesn't start until they receive my paper work and Questionnaire which was 28th April. Means the eight week period is not until 23rd June Aargh! Is this correct? icon9.gif

    Hi JOSOM

    How annoying.

Maybe they all have their own rules, but 8 weeks is 8 weeks, if they don't resolve this you are still entitled to move this on to the FOS, these questionaires, do seem to be stalling tactics.
I would ring the FOS on Monday and see what they think, good luck.;)
