OS and "going out" issues!

It's fair enough him wanting to go out every so often with his mates I think. You need to work out how much he's spending each week on beer, then work out how much he spends in a year, then tell him if he cuts down you could afford a holiday, new car, jacuzzi, etc...
 5 pints a week = £10,
 5 pints a week for a year = £520
Not an insignificant amount really 0 0

Any chance they could have a "boys night in" every month? You go out instead(as you will be very careful) and the lads spend on cans-should only work out to be about a fiver for a night in! He could grab some bogofs(Iceland do Carlsberg export for £4.79-thats 8 cans with the bogof).
Or the lads supply the beer and you leave them some pizzas or something? Do any of them want to cut back on their spending?Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

Oh my, some of you seem to be turning in to your mothers quite young
I have fantastic nights out and hardly spend a penny, I usually arrive at my favourite clubs early before they start charging entrance (but being a familiar face and friendly with all the door staff they're quite flexible if running late ), I don't drink alcohol at all when out (I go out to dance only not to drink, which is why I often arrive early - I love dancing!!). I tend to drink water most the night (for free) and sometimes cola if offered drinks (but I don't drink too much as I get bloated). Plus I'm well known and friendly with nearly all the bar staff in my favourite clubs so that's useful as I don't have to wait long to get served ), I don't drink alcohol at all when out (I go out to dance only not to drink, which is why I often arrive early - I love dancing!!). Some of the best nights out I've ever had (talking 8 hours of solid formation dancing here ) have cost me less than a fiver ) have cost me less than a fiver Why should having a good time cost money if you play the rules? Why should having a good time cost money if you play the rules?
It's great exercise too and I meet some really interesting people. Woo yay 0 0

my mother tells me this frequently!! at least i can tell her that by my age, she was married with a child, so i'm still living the "young" lifestyle more than she did!!!
and i like the idea of 8 hours of formation dancing!!! you must be doing more exercise than me because i couldn't last that long :happyhear0 :happyhear0

I'm with Amosworks on this - stay in and be able to buy lots of shiny stuff or go out and meet people... no contest. (old car, old telly, lots of interesting nights...)0

Heh well at first I couldn't handle it but you get used to it after a while. Until then though, you can buy drugs from behind the bars so it's pretty easy to find that little pick-me-up when your feet hurt lol. Most the time one of the dance troupe will pass them down the line for free during the routinesmelancholly wrote:and i like the idea of 8 hours of formation dancing!!! you must be doing more exercise than me because i couldn't last that long 0 0

            Hi all
Looking for a bit of advice really... Feel free to move this to whether most appropriate...
Recently started with moneysaving, big BIG fan of OS and have been keenly examining shopping habits, electricity usage and so forth in particular!
Spreadsheet done for finances, budget in progress but being worked on and adapted month-by-month which seems to be the way forward rather than my initial expectation of everything falling into place immediately!
But how do I get boyfy on board? We've been together three years and my adaptations to our spending habits are not always going down well. He seems to be resisting things, and at this point I should point out that he is self-admittedly "rubbish" with money. I hate taking him shopping because he is terrible for picking up stuf that's not on the list and will habitually buy things that he will only eat/use half of which will then go off.
He doesn't like me rationing things, or suggesting I cook him some homemade meals to take to work instead of ready meals. I handle all our money (which we agreed - he said it would be better) yet the money I allocate for certain things (the main source of arguments being his bus fare fund for the month in cash), he will dip into for a variety of miscellaneous things, such as drinks with the boys, food at uni and work - which he knows full well he could bring from home as I ensure we have enough.
But then he has hated it when we have constantly been short previously at the end of every month (for last two months we have built up a small surplus somehow and managed a decent though monitored weekly shop every weeks intead of 2/3 weeks out of four ) so I just can't work out how to get it through to him that what I am wanting to do to is for us to know where and to whom our cash is going, so we an adjust accordingly and have enough for our lifestyle and some to save as well - which interestingly is a big deal to him yet he doesn't seem to want to do anything about it!
Any advice? Have you experienced this with a partner?Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63
