Incorrect Billing over 18 month Period..Legal to back date??

EDF claim that I have been incorrectly billed since July 07. Is it legal for them to now backdate, they claim the night and day meter readings were switched. Hence a £890 bill. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have a read of this thread:

Did you inform the supplier they were billing incorrectly?
If not, they can probably bill you to correct the error.

If you had overpaid because of the error, would you have expected a refund when they discovered it?

Hi don't if it helps but I was once told that a utility company can not chase you for back payments over a year old if it was there error but if you don't give readings then possible its different. I have heard them talk about this on working lunch on BBC2 so may be worth a email to them.

I had a similar experience. Did you or a meter reader provide/take accurate meter readings and give them to EDF the correct way round? If so, then the back-billing rule should apply if the original readings were set up incorrectly.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
