Life Insurance

Last Sept 08 we increased our motgage so naturally we increased our our life cover and critical illness cover, at the time we were told that my other half wasnt covered on the original policy so obviously we put him on as far as we were aware he was on the policy, anyway she also said that we could just increase my amount to cover the difference.I know I should of checked when we had the paperwork stupid of me I know but I looked through the policy today and my OH is covered for the full amount but I was only covered for £16,000.I have now increased my life cover to cover the mortgage but I have had to leave my crictical illness at the £16000 at the moment. But when I contacted the mortgage protection today about increasing my policy I was told that my OH was and always had been on the original policy but I have paperwork from the mortgage advisior I saw saying he wasnt so my point really is should I complain that we were told he wasnt on the original policy when he was.I know everything is sorted concerning the new policy with him on it but its the principal

The adviser is responsible for the advice that is given. If the advice was wrong then you complain to them. If their research shows that the insurer gave incorrect information, then they can raise the complaint for you with the insurer. If the adviser made the error, then they have the liability for the advice given.

Make sure you are not mixing up mortgage protection and life assurance. These are different things but you make reference to both in your post. That may just be terminology getting in the way or it could be that you have multiple plans or multiple segments within the same plan.

It was critical illness cover and life protection so if I had of died then my OH would only have got £16000 and the same if I had been dignosed with a critical illness, but if I had lost my job for eg then that would just be covered automatically and there was no extra payment with that if that makes sense. So now Ive increased my benefit upto the total amount of my mortgage which it should of been but I have left my critical illness cover at £16000 but when we saw the mortgage advisor she said everything would just be increased to cover everything which it wasnt but then again I should of checked the paperwork sooner. But I do feel that she obvioulsy didnt know what she was doing saying that OH wasnt covered at all.I hope Ive explained that a bit better but I do realise as I said in my other post I know I should of checked
