Slow Laptop

I know that all the Techie posters must get fed up with the same old problems that we post, so thanks in advance

My Toshiba lappie is on a go slow and my AOL/IE keeps "not responding" not an ideal situation when trying to dabble in a spot of matched betting.
It's running Vista, but I'm not sure of the Gig etc

From reading the many cries for help,, I've updated my Malwarebytes (I did run this yesterday, but didn't update it first) and done a full scan.
The log should be below.
I'm now off to re-boot and then do the Hijack This, then I will post that log.
I also ran CCleaner yesterday.

Hmmm, ok. This may seem harsh, but there are two things readily definable as wrong. One is AOL and the other IE.

I'll probably get blown to pieces for saying this *ducks flying shrapnel* but in my opinion AOL is extremely invasive to your system as it is, and is riddled with inadequacies. And IE, whilst being a fave, is clunky (as is VISTA, *shudders*)

With you running the programs that you have done I would suggest you look at this problem at its most basic level. For starts I'd recommend you change your browser to Firefox. Streamlined is what it is. Plus if it don't run, then you'll really know that you've a problem, and that it has nowt to do with IE.

How does your other programs handle? Start up/ other general functions?
If this is a broad spectrum problem, then you are going to need to attack using a wider method....

I'm sure others here will have better insight, and perhaps experience with this, so I'll defer to them, but don't dis-regard downloading firefox, it will at least narrow the playing field....

Oh, plus...having an idea what your system is running on will give us something meatier to work on. Not all laptops that are compatible with Vista should be running it. Trust me on that one....plus unless it has the 3GB sweet spot of memory it will have difficulty anyway. Especially if it is a premium version.

I've got Vista Home Premium and I think it's 2GB.

I do have Mozilla Firefox on my desktop, so I suppose I should start using that as my browser.

I also have AVG, having disposed of Norton when I got the laptop, but I not sure if AVG is still the best free AntiVirus to have.

Yeah for the now use Mozilla. If there is a problem with that, then there will defo be an underlying problem. Your memory is OK for vista. If problems persist then re-boot to an earlier point where there was no problem. Vista keeps a history of what programs have been installed when, as well as updates when you go for a recovery. If all else fails, plum with that...be sure to take the option that does not delete files, or if you think that may be a problem then back up the essentials and go for a full restore.

You might want to think about de-fragging, and clearing your registries. All these things can slow down your computer.

If you have programs which auto-update, consider switching to manual. For instance I notice you have Itunes. These programs always take up memory.

There are a lot of forums on the web which give advice on how to streamline vista, some of the advice is really good - look into it. (Just don't buy programs which promise the earth, whatever you do..)

AVG is OK , certainly a step up from NORTON. Another one that people find good is AntiVir. But if you have the full version of AVG...I can't really recommend anything else. - Even the free version does a pretty good job....consider buying more memory - try ebay for that.

Sounds like a lot but, I suppose it depends on how much you're invested in your laptop, and anyway most of my suggestions are cheap...

To be honest, it is not something I use, although reading the script, there is nothing that really stands out.

PC's are very fiddly, tempermental, capricious, creatures, and like I said...AOL can be just awful and IE really annoying. Hope it continues to work with Firefox, and I would suggest un-installing IE and downloading the new one direct from the official website.

If you need the BLUETOOTH working on your computer your going to have to reinstall the software

As youve had a worm id suggest a run with combofix ~
Please run COMBOFIX
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be)

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe')

I WOULDNT suggest upgrading to IE8 as AOL might be even worse with that and quite a few people have had problems with it (As AOL integrates with IE id really recommend against it)
But even if you Do go for it, I certainly wouldnt suggest uninstalling IE7 (For starters, you might not have another IE to fall back on and your supposed to just install IE8 over the top)
