HSBC - Been sent a new VISA card? Read me!

Options
Greetings all, just thought I would share this with you. I did a quick search and didn't come across it - apologies if its been posted.

As you may know HSBC are changing from Maestro to VISA for debit cards, my lovely new VISA card arrived in the post and I went online to activate it, save some time yes? Actually no.

After activating the card (and feeding my maestro card to the shredder at work) I got some shopping at Asda and went to pay with my new card. Except that it told me the PIN was wrong, I was slightly miffed by this since it clearly states on the accompanying paperwork with the card that the PIN doesn't change. So I paid with a CC anyway and went home to ring HSBC, the man on the phone told me nothing was wrong and perhaps I should try again tomorrow (ie he reckoned I had the PIN wrong)

So I tried to get some cash out the next day - guess what? Still won't work. So I rang HSBC again and spoke to a nice woman who told me that there's an issue when you activate the card online thats happened to loads of people - basically if you activate the card via your internet banking, it actually cancels that card and sends you a new one!! So I had to wait a week for a new card to arrive - with my original PIN I hasten to add.

So if you get a new HSBC Visa card, phone up to activate or take it to a cash machine! Just to be on the safe side.
