My nan is over 80 and she gets her's through the post office - price is pretty good compared to the other place we tried which was Egg.

If your Mum is a regular traveller you could try opening a LLoydsTsb Gold account which gives free annual multitrip insurance up to 80yrs. The other conditions on the account are bad though e.g. monthly charge under a certain balance and virtually no interest.

CO-op pathfinder account is similar to the Lloyds account but you also get car breakdown insurance and a number of other benefits thrown in. My father who could not get insured to go to America by conventinal means below £600 but by opening the pathfinder was covered. Cost around £12/month from memory.

Thanks for your help i have phoned a couple of the places you all have suggested and it looks like my mum will get some insurence for about £55 thats with the pre-existing medical conditions so i dont think thats bad at all. my moto is its better to be safe than sorry alot of my mums friends dont even bother with insurence when they are going away which in my opinion is daft. but thanks again for all your help its much appreciated.

Completely daft. Elderly woman recently medivaced(spelling?) from Canada with brain tumor with a hospital bill of £250,000 due to insurance problem. Faces having to sell house.

I'm not a pensioner but do have pre-existing medical conditions.

I can recommend Marks and Spencer both for their reasonable price (£90 worldwide annual cost for a couple) and their excellent customer service.
