DVLA Blunder
Hi there,
I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice.
My dad has held a motorbike licence for over 20 years and sent his licence to DVLA for a renewal. The licence appaers to have been "lost" and DVLA are saying that they do not keep records of people who have passed tests etc. Therefore my dad will have to retake his test.
I think it is ludicrous that people have to retake test and incur costs etc because of a blunder at the DVLA. There must be something that can be done about it.
Has anyone had any experience of this?
Thanks!

Does he not have any section of the license...?
if it where true that they do not keep records how come the police can name check with the DVLA ?0 -
This was covered on Watchdog a few weeks ago - DVLA arrogantly insist that their records cannot be incorrect. The DVLA is no longer fit for purpose."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I am afraid your Dad will have to retake his test (and they've just brought in a new one).
Even police officers who been riding for years with lots of witnesses have to do this.
UNLESS he has paper evidence.
My other half got certified copies done before he sent off his licence.
Sorry but unfortunately if police officers who've been riding for 20 years have to do it, then I think you Dad will have to do it, unless he did any copies.0 -
this was on Watchdog a while back, its affected loads of people, has he any proof that he past his bike test? as watchdog took 2 women to the DVLA office and they got new ones done then and there as they could both prove they were intitled to drive,0

Because they have records of who has a license, and what they are licensed to drive/ride. In the OP's case, it appears the DVLA have managed to delete this record, and lose the paper license they were sent."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

Thank you
But the op is saying the dvla told her they do not keep records ? All that has been lost is the licence in the post.0 -

So if they accidentally delete your motorcyclke entitlement from their database it's gone for good.
ONLY paper copies will be good enough.
30 police officers saying you've been riding in the polcie force for 20 years is NOT good enough.
You need paper copies.
I would advise getting certified copies.
If you haven't got a friendly solictitor then go into your bank and ask if someone there will giev your copies the official stamp (you'll need a passport or similar for id).0 -

op has not said they have deleted the records...Only that the paperwork has been lost in the post0
