Does the army count for a child in an approved training scheme?

For working tax credit calculation, there is mention of having a child between 16-19 in an approved scheme. Obviously this would generally apply to apprenticeships, NVQs etc., but what if my 17 year old son were to join the army?

My guess is that this might be different to an approved training scheme, but also that the rules may be different for the armed forces anyway, particularly while he is undergoing basic training, and until he reaches 18.

Any ideas?

'Approved Training' only refers to a set few courses (see below).
    What counts as approved training

    Approved training is:
    • England - Entry to Employment or Programme Led Pathways
    • Wales - Skillbuild, Skillbuild+ or Foundation Modern Apprenticeships
    • Scotland - Get Ready for Work, Skillseekers or Modern Apprenticeships
    • Northern Ireland - Access or Training For Success (Formally Jobskills)
There are some Pre-Uniformed Services courses done through colleges which are classed a Full-Time Education but generally armed forces training is classed as full-time employment and would not qualify.
