Toshiba Laptop - Upgraded memory beyond spec

In short,

Old laptop had 256DDR PC2100, which i believe is 133Mhz, or 266Mhz.

I only have 2x 256MB DDR PC2300 which i believe is 166Mhz, or 333Mhz.

Ive installed them, and not noticed any issues with the laptop, no failures indicated and sandra shows them as working ok.

Im thinking, that as i have fitted faster memory, they will only work at the speed that the CPU works at. So i could fit 2x 512MB DDR 333Mhz sticks, but they would only run at 266Mhz speed due to the CPU.

Am i right.? or am i going to cause problems to this 2002 laptop.

They will work at the system's FSB rating.

Possibly, but you may find that a computer of that age may not support 2 x 512MB RAM - check out the particular model specs on http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/

    This is the model

    Here

Says that it will accept 1024MB, and that what ive fitted will work ok as advertised.

I took the old memory out of a damaged Acer laptop, to fit to this to try to make it faster, but its not really picked up.

plus its huge..my other toshiba laptop has gone in for repair today back to PC world.

this was the old thing in the cupboard..its huge..

The only way additional memory will make it faster is by reducing swapfile access - it's not going to turn it into a speed demon.... ;)

Looks as though it will take 2 x 512MB SODIMMs to give a maximum of 1GB RAM.
