Bank charges reclaim - Halifax

Hi, I am trying to claim back bank charges of £1450 from Halifax under hardship. I have had a couple of letters from them and 2 weeks ago they offered me £280 which I refused. I received another letter 2 days ago saying this would be 'their final offer pending the outcome of the ongoing court proceedings'.
I feel this amount is not enough. Any advice on where I can go from here?

I think you should have accepted £280 as an interim payment and negotiated on the basis of the arrears you have against the offer given. So if your priority debts(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities) exceed £280 then I would write to them accepting it but asking that they increase it as it only covers x amount of arrears and not the full arrears.0 -
Hi Charliemc,
This is the 1st time I have used this site, and in a similar position to you, claming £1160.00 from HSBC from 2007/7. I have been offered £360 today under hardship classification. Not sure what to do, don't know if I accept will it have to be repaid if the court case goes in favour of the banks? Good luck with your claim.0 -

Any offer made is not a full and final settlement which means that any amount you accept still means the rest of the charges are payable on the conclusion of the OFT test case issues.0 -
thanks for your advice. I will accept and hope the test case rules in our favour.0

Hi Sigel, it looks as if the advice is to take the offer and wait for the outcome of the test case. Good luck0

Hi, Thank you for your advice, I have a case worker at CAB who has been fantastic but they don't offer advice on this subject. However I'm happy to have a little and an acceptance of liability for now, I have been informed by the bank that I will not be able to ask for any further amount for 3 months on acceptance of the amount and it must be accepted within 10 days.0
