Can anyone feedback for me? BiL currently has 2 pensions. One British Rail FSS other private. Does BR FSS allow transfers in? ie could he transfer private funds into BR pension?
Also, does anyone have a link that could help trace a pension from way back that he's lost track of?
We're also presuming that he should, if possible, leave BR FSS untouched as long as possible. Can anyone outline benefits of leaving a final salary scheme untouched for as long as possible?
He's being advised by Braemar regarding "pension release" and is 57.

Some more details...
railway pension transfer value 28000. pension now: 1400 pa plus lump sum 1200
Save and prosper pension: transfer value 25800 (5600 non protected, rest protected)
He doesn't have pressing need for income at moment but could really do with c5000 to do up new flat.
Use S&P for 5000 and leave balance to grow till income needed in future?
How could this be done?
Leave railway untouched until income needed?
It looks like he's started enquiries with Braemar Financial Planning to get both pots transferred....letter from railway states " I understand you are considering transferring your pension rights to Braemar Financial planning Ltd."
Nothing against Braemar but seems intuitively daft to give up railway pension rights?
Any views/feedback greatly appreciated to get us thinking on the right track.
If anyone needs other details please ask.
