NEXT...no delivery after 5 months?!

I need some help with this. Basically I ordered a few items in the next on line sale at Christmas time (29/12/08). The confirmation email told me that all items would be delivered within 2-4weeks. So far I have received 2 of the 4 items ordered and I'm still waiting on 2 tops arriving!
I have rung the general cutomers services a couple of times (TBH I kept forgetting about them as it has been so long!)
The general response seems to be that they are still trying to honour my order or I can request a refund.
What I need help with is that I find this terrible customer service, if they don't have the items surely they should have known by now and informed me?
I paid for everything at the time of order so they still have £22 of MY money in THEIR account, is a simple refund enough to cover the fact that I have been out of pocket because of them?
Also I ordered the tops for 2 specific events that I had, one was in Jan and I hadn't expected to get the top for then but hoped, the other one was ordered to match a skirt for an event that was in April...I had to purchase another top instead.
Can anyone help with what I should be saying to them? Should I ask if they could offer me an alternative item at the same price or ask for a 'compensation' amount for such poor service?
Any help appreciated.

Forget it! IME Next sales online is pot luck - the demand seems so large for it that their stock system can't keep up with what they've got left. We've had items ordered which just get lost in the ether, never to be heard of again. I doubt you'll ever get what you ordered, so I'd just get a refund.0

Ive had similar problems with the next sale stuff before, I only order online from next sale if it says in stock, dont bother if it says 2-4 weeks
Did you pay straight away by credit card? I use account and they only bill me for the stuff as it comes - ie, if the stuff hasnt come I havent been billed for it?Weight Loss - 102lb0 -

Yes it was the first I've ever ordered from Next online so had no account, paid by debit card I think (too long ago to remember!)
It's just such poor service but I guess they know people fight over the sales so they can get away with it! You'd think they would have had the decency to let me know by now that they don't have them anymore.
So disappointed since I really liked the tops and won't get the same for that money.0
