Have you tried another sim in it ? otherwise sounds like the handset has been barred...contact your service provider and give them the mobile number of the sim that was in the phone...and they'll be able to tell you if its barred or not...

No, if the phone has been barred then it is unusable with any SIM, period. This will only have been done if it has been reported as stolen.

You need to phone the telephone company, or try a friend's sim, Do you know the history of the phone, has it ever worked for you?

also try cleaning the points and the sim card if it's a known phone. I get this with my old nokia (backup) phone, sometimes takes several times of inserting the sim before it registers

So you're not trying to use it in a different phone, it has worked in this phone before? What network is the SIM?
Sounds like faulty SIM card, have you tried cleaning the contacts as advised in an earlier post?

So the phone is not blocked, it's a faulty SIM. Clean the contacts, that's about all you can do.

If you have had the sim for some time then it will no longer be valid?

There are ads for free sims on the o2 website, send for some new ones.
