It needs reform, but many home-owners haven't been that bothered.
Why get worked up about it, when the value of the property you own has been rising thousands, tens of thousands of pounds or more a year in value.
You're also dreaming if you don't think big changes are coming in housing benefits. I've always expected it, and see they will soon start to squeeze - although not that hard to begin with.
Also what they pay towards rent in housing benefit will fall, as property values continue to crash.It claims there are now ‘strong indications’ the Government’s forthcoming consultation on housing benefits will consider only ‘proposals that are either cost-cutting or cost neutral, in order to reduce the current level of spending on housing benefit and council tax benefit (CTB)’. Mr Darling announced the Government’s internal review of housing benefits – paid by councils on behalf of central government – had almost been completed, and he intended to consult on his proposed changes this summer.
