Learning drive
Sorry for the long post ...
I've been with a driving company since last august. I had an instructor called Kevin upto christmas to cut a long story short he was basically ripping me off. He wouldnt tell me what I at to improve on and etc. So I changed to a different bloke called Rob with the same company.
I've been having Rob as my driving instructor for about 4/5 months now. I have 12 hours block booked left which I paid for in february but he wrote on my card it had been paid so thats proof of paying I suppose.
Anyway that isnt the problem. The problem is I dont know whether I should give up learning drive or swap instructors. I dont know if its just me being me or if its the instructor. He speaks to me like crap sometimes and I have just started learning to reverse etc has he concentrated on my driving at first. But because I cant do it depsite him telling me what do he says this is how you do it like I know how if I knew how I would of passed by now? He also says its called using your brain . I have a brain but I just cant reverse etc.
At the end of my driving lesson he asked when I wanted to go again. I said I will let you know tomorrow and he replied I dont have to go for a while if I dont want to.
Now this is the problem. I want a new instructor as he puts me on edge sometimes also. But I dont want keep swapping instructors as the company may get annoyed with me. I'm in two minds to be honest whether to just give up driving but I dont want to .. I was going try a female instructor.
So what I am asking I suppose is ... Am I in the wrong for wanting to swap instructors yet again?
Thanks

If I was you I would get a new instructor that is not connected with the same driving school. One that is well recommended in your area. Don't just go for the ones offering silly deals like first 4 lessons for £30 etc as a good instructor with a decent dairy wouldn't need to entice clients with offers like that. Also if possible try and have at least 2 x 2hour lessons a week as this will give you less chance of forgetting stuff between lessons. Book a couple of single lessons at first so you can see if you will get on with the instructor and feel comfortable with him/her before block booking.
The only thing I hated while learning to drive was instructors messing be about which resulted in me changing schools/instructors a few times!0 -
9 months later and can't reverse...
A. Change companies as been said.
B. Give up.0 -

Probably, harsh as it sounds, B is the best option to be brutally honest.0 -
It took me 3 instructors and a intensive course to get me through my test, you really need to get the relationship right.
It took time but I now love driving, have driven supercars on a race track and am hoping to do my advanced driving test next year and join the institute of advanced motorists.
If driving is something you really want to do it is worth persevering. I had weekly lessons for months, failed my test 3 times and gave up, after my A'levels I had another go with a intensive course from my 3rd driving instructor and passed within 2 weeks. That relationship is so important, as others have said go with recommendations and experience and if you feel a female instructor would be helpful ask around see if anyone knows one.2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0 -
awww i would say def change instructors and if that doesnt work maybe try an automatic and see if that helps.0

I fail to see how having a (Good relationship) with your instructor makes any odds...You either have a natural flare to drive or you don't.0 -
Also try www.2pass.co.uk and there's a link to their forums on there. I would recommend changing driving school to see if you learn any more or progress better. As for the way he speaks to you he may be trying to motivate you into making more effort - even if saying such things is probably not in anyway tactful. Is he explaining what you need to do well? Is he watching you as you attempt the manoevers and explaining where you are going wrong and giving suggestions on how to correct the errors?
I can imagine from the way my driving instructor taught me there'll have been some people complaining about him and wanting to change - but he did teach me everything I needed to know to be able to pass the test, and I passed first time. Which is what matters. I think he probably strung the lessons out a bit, but I think he probably did that as the BSM instructors get some sort of incentive for those who have customers that pass first time.Bowdyjan18 wrote: »I fail to see how having a (Good relationship) with your instructor makes any odds...You either have a natural flare to drive or you don't.
Yeah I see what you mean. Although if you find learning difficult - you're probably more likely to carry on learning if you get on well with the instructor and they're giving good clear instruction.0 -

i think that is quite possibly the biggest load of turd comment ever! If this instructor is constanty putting her down how is that going to help her?? She needs someone who is really patient and doesn't make her feel like an eejit!0 -

Thanks
My DD had two driving instructors from the same school, one not great, one awful, like you going no where, despite probably 100 hours of lessons.
She changed to a local man & passed quickly, first time.
CHANGE! Its your time, your money.0
