I tried to make a faster payment last night for £40 out of my Current Accout and it would not let me, said would have to make BACS Payment instead. Obviously I did not go through as needed to liquidy sooner.
    Tried this morning and worked.

Success, just moved payment to a Reward Account and money has gone immediately.

As you say Milarky, it does seem to be a block on a particular account. It doesn't seem to matter who the payee is, or the amount of money or the time of day. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have found this querk.
Has anyone who has the block found out how long it remains, or does IT even know it's there?
I now have this problem on all 3 of my Reward accounts and after a 45 minute conversation to the online helpdesk I am no further forward.
    1. Could anyone shed light on how I can get this block removed?
    2. Has anyone had this block removed just by waiting for a time period to elapse?
Thanks for any help to get this resolved.

Can't help at the moment as I've not needed to move any money from the account since that episode.

It took almost a month before I could FP again from my 'blocked' account. I just waited, as I was using another account with HBOS for it, so I didn't chase the issue up with CS.

  • I have made small faster payments from Halifax with no problem but I don't know if my experience with Lloyds helps to explain why sometimes faster payments will not go. The other day I wanted to transfer a largish sum from LLoyds. I had no idea there was a limit on FP, as I had only done small amounts before, so the money I wanted to transfer would not go. I phoned the bank who told me there is a limit and I could look it up on the Faster Payments web site. Having found out the limit I reduced the sum accordingly. It still wouldn't go as an FP! Back on the phone it was eventually revealed that, once you have reached the limit for the day, you cannot exceed it even though you have cancelled the transaction. This struck me as screwy, the bank's explanation was that it was for 'security reasons'. I did the FP the next day at the bank's FP limit, no problem, then did a second one the day after. Still quicker than BACs.

This problem is really starting to annoy me now. Had same problem last month, which eventually cleared

Tried yesterday, no faster payment - 1st try £1000, then tried lower amounts

tried again today, same problem. tried a new payee still same problem

all the while the money earning no interest whilst in Halifax
  • Is anyone else experiencing problems with immediate faster payments from Halifax today. I transfer a sum on a weekly basis and this is the first time it's failed to work. I called the bank who told me that a) the service hasn't been working since 7pm last night and b) that it's not a guaranteed service. It doesn't say either of these things anywhere obvious on their website and it's really annoying me. If I had known about the problem I would have made my regular transfer from another account but, as it is, the money is trapped in the Halifax and the only way I can get at it is to go to a branch and draw it out as cash. I'm seriously unimpressed.

I would be be interested to confirm that everyone else is experiencing this problem with them today.

Nope. I made a number of FP transfers this morning, from six different Reward accounts in two different names - all went by FP without any problems at all. So it's not an across-the-board problem (and it certainly hasn't been down right across Halifax since 7pm yesterday).

Thanks for that. This is now becoming completely bizarre. I managed to transfer £1,350 out of the £1,700 yesterday evening after posting here but I had to do this in two lumps. I wasn't able to do the rest. On checking this morning I can transfer up to £40 but no more without it reverting to a normal BACS.
